LILY
This is the story of the making of Carousel, twice. 1945, for Rodgers and Hammerstein, was the beginning. The beginning of their career together, of post-WW II America, and of the first piece they would write since the death of Rodgers’ ex-writing partner Lorenz Hart. In 2008, for Margaret and Rita, it was the end. The end of a 25 year run of their children's theatre company and subsequently of the world as they’ve always known it. This is the story of two friendships separated by 63 years, and how they collectively processed their trauma through the same musical about clambakes, carnivals, and violence.
Lily was developed at Williams Town Theatre Festival and performed as part of the Dixon Place Lounge series. Lily was also a finalist for the Clauder Awards and was performed as a workshop production by Flannel Theater Company in 2019.
